Position overview

Lead SCADA Control Systems Specialist (Data Historian) - This lead position requires in-depth knowledge of the data historian components of the control systems and how the data historian is architected, designed and integrated into the control system platforms. The position also requires clear understanding of how the business uses the data historian applications for real time trending, event monitoring and post event analysis, planning and forecasting, and reporting function. This position will be responsible for leading a team to maintain the data historian applications and associated technology and platform, providing consultation for project requests, performing complex technical analysis and providing recommendations to address issues as they relate to the data historian. The position will also be responsible for leading the implementation of the replacement, technology upgrade, or enhancement of the data historian applications and platforms. This position will work with the SCE architectural team to develop strategic roadmap of our control systems in specifically how the data historian applications will be architected and evolve. This position will be working closely with the business clients, which include T&D operations, engineering to understand their requirements and to provide technical solutions for meeting their short term and long term business goals. The position will also work with other SCE teams to ensure the data historian applications and platform are maintained according to the standard as well as adhere to policies and in compliance with NERC and FERC.

Typical responsibilities will include :

  • Team Lead – As a function lead of the data historian team and be the single point of contact for the data historian technology for all transmission and distribution control systems under Power System Controls’ portfolio.

  • Maintenance - Develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance the data historian platforms and applications with transmission and distribution control systems. Perform tier 2 support on complex technical issues associated with the data historian applications and the associated platforms.

  • Support - Lead the team and be responsible for tier one service desk function and the handling of all service requests from T&D Operations.

  • Training - Conduct training to the data historian team and the rest of the maintenance teams at PSC in the software architecture of the data historian applications as well as the tools and utilities associated with operating and maintaining the applications.

  • Client Facing - Representing maintenance team and PSC to the client facing meetings and their business planning and strategy discussions. Build client relationships by understand their business needs and manage their expectations.

  • Consultation - Providing consultation to peers, PSC Management team, IT support teams, and IT leadership team regarding short-term and long-term system architectures and technology roadmap of the data historian technology.

  • Innovation - Work with data historian and control system vendors to understand the latest industrial technology development and communicate to SCE stakeholders for strategic decisions. Bring the SCE visions to vendors and industry for product alignment and to drive future technology standards.

  • Standards and Compliance - Work with SCE teams to ensure that the data historian applications and platforms are maintained according to standards, adhere to policies, and in compliant with NERC and FERC.


Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer science or other stemmed related disciplines.

  • 8 years of relevant experience in the field of control systems performing analysis or related functions and providing recommendations. 5 years of experience with data historian maintenance and support.

Desired qualifications

  • Master degree in specialized field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Technical knowledge of Schneider Electric eDNA data historian application with relevant electric utility maintenance and support experience is preferred.
