About Generation:

Generation is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of Southern California Edison's Generation assets. Which includes: hydro, solar, gas, combined cycle, and fuel cells

Position Overview:

Working at our Catalina Island Generation Facility, the Plant Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the Generation, Gas and Water assets by conducting inspections, acquiring data for trend analysis, and monitoring equipment health. The engineer will help identify emergent Generation, Gas and Water process issues and be responsible for managing small O&M projects. This individual will act as an interface between SCE Generation’s Eastern Operations, Project Engineering, Asset Management and Generation Strategy. The individual will be reporting to Engineering Manager of Plant Engineering Group, which is part of Asset Management and Generation Strategy work group of Generation Department.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Apply objective department wide criteria for project evaluation, using knowledge and experience

  • Coordinate with Project Engineering group on major projects and regular interface with Generation operations

  • Utilize engineering and generation plant knowledge, to analyze and assess projects to independently evaluate needs, justification and cost development

  • Support emergent equipment and generation process issues related to generation assets and online work management schedule development

  • Develop and support integrated capital work plans for the annual budget, three, five and ten year planning horizons

  • Support Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) functions for the Division

  • Manage small capital and O&M projects

  • Develop and support condition based monitoring and adverse condition monitoring plans and actions

  • Support the department’s corrective action program and lead the effort on behalf of Operations

  • Perform engineering economic analyses in order to prioritize and justify a total Generation Department Capital project budget

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Five years of experience managing, supervising, or leading an organization, unit, or teams.

  • Five years engineering experience

  • Five years of engineering experience related to a hydro or fossil fuel generation facility

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS Engineering, P. E. License preferred

  • Typically possesses 8 or more years working in progressing responsible plant engineering positions

  • Demonstrated experience of power generation reliability engineering

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing/justification of capital projects

  • Demonstrated experience working with Power Generation facilities

  • Demonstrated experience working with Project Cost estimating

  • Demonstrated experience working in Asset Management program

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a project team member in a project matrix environment

  • Must be able to drive, fly, traverse on uneven surfaces (hiking), sit/stand for extended periods of time, and work in various weather conditions, for extended periods of time
