About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organization (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

This position will be in the Safety, Training, and Compliance organization within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission & Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D). The successful candidate will be responsible to perform in-depth analysis, develop recommendations, and provide consulting related to Distribution work methods, construction, and planning standards. This position will also be responsible to assist in the oversight, specifications, builds, and regulatory compliance of the Transmission & Distribution fleet.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Field Construction with Work Methods and Distribution Construction Standards for both Overhead and Underground Construction.

  • Responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing overhead and underground grounding safety programs and construction standards related to tools and grounding.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience of interactions with regulatory entities such as Cal-OSHA, ANSI, and ASTM.

  • Ergonomic considerations in the adoption of work methods and construction standards.

  • Responsibility for the design and specifications of workforce vehicles.

  • Write and review bulletins related to work methods, material, and standards to be distributed throughout T&D.

  • Participating in the Job Aid Process and working with the SCE training department to complete the design process for new tools and equipment.

  • Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Work with Supply Chain Management developing and reviewing Bid Packages related to vehicles, tools, and equipment for T&D.

  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) on various team and committees within SCE and throughout the utilities industry.

  • Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


Minimum qualifications

  • Eight or more years of electrical utility experience with emphasis on distribution.

  • Recognized as a utility industry expert and resource related to distribution work methods, construction, and planning standards.

  • Recognized as an expert and industry resource of electric utility tools, equipment and vehicles.

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business, or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge with fleet and equipment utilized by both U.S. and international electric utilities.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and/or participating on technical cross-functional teams.

  • In-depth experience with electrical distribution work methods, planning, equipment, tools and materials. Typically recognized as an industry expert.

  • In-depth working knowledge/experience with the typical tools and equipment utilized in construction, operation and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the development of job/training aids for new or enhanced tools and equipment.

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with clients, peers, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies and all levels of management, to develop solutions, resolve conflicts and ensure stakeholder buy-in.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and accountability for results while working independently.
