About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
Power Quality Specialists work with a variety of internal and external customers. They plan and perform power quality investigations, diagnose complex power quality problems, and recommend corrective actions to internal and external customers. Each power quality specialist is responsible for a specific geographical area within the SCE service territory. Power quality specialists provide training to internal and external customers, and assist in the preparation of brochures, handbooks, and articles for publication. Successful candidates could also serve as staff experts in one or more specific topics associated with power quality problems or solutions. Power Quality Specialists attend industry conferences and represent the interests of the utility customers on industry standards committees. Successful Power Quality Specialists are self-starters, using independent study and training classes to continuously add to their skills and knowledge in this field.
Typical Responsibilities :
Responsible for installing and connecting Power Quality Analyzers to customer equipment energized at <600v using appropriate PPE.
Monitoring equipment at customer locations.
Analyzing data with the assistance of a senior technical specialist.
Utilizing available tools to troubleshoot and resolve electrical events and accurately explaining in non-technical terms, technical events to customers.
Will require time in the office writing customer reports with the assistance of a senior technical specialist covering basic Singular recommendations as well as Complex recommendations.
Providing basic technical support to other departments at SCE, as well as the legal department.
Attending industry conferences representing SCE and its customers.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain a safety conscious work environment by following SCE safety protocols and safe work practices.
Four or more years of experience using Testing Equipment or Power Analyzers to troubleshoot & analyze Utility Transmission & Distribution Systems and/or Industrial Control Systems.
Formal electrical training through an IBEW or ABC Apprenticeship, Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent education.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
Certified Power Quality Professional (AEE certification).
Two or more years of experience installing Power Quality Analyzers and analyzing data.
Experience collaborating on cross-functional teams to meet objectives.
Experience in explaining complex technical concepts verbally and in writing to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Project management skills and the ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and coordinate multiple projects and work independently.
Understanding of Power Quality metering power quality analyzers and programming.
Knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
Five or more years working as an electrician/maintenance or utility electrician with a broad systems and equipment.
The successful candidate will be required to drive a company vehicle and must possess a valid California driver license and clean abstract.
Position will require up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
