About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The need for advanced analytics has become essential to provide informed decision making to help drive Transmission & Distribution (T&D) into top quartile performance in safety, reliability, and affordability. The Maintenance, Performance, and Reliability (MPR) organization provides T&D business partners with information to discover the underlying drivers of performance using descriptive statistics, and develop predictive and prescriptive models to drive significant transformation of business processes.

MPR is integrating data processing, analysis, and visualizations using the SAS suite of applications and is currently expanding SAS to streamline and automate manual report processing. Additionally, routine reports are being consolidated from specific organizational reports into holistic T&D reports with the objective to perform business analytics in the SAS applications including Enterprise Guide, Enterprise Miner, and Visual Analytics.

The MPR performance Analytics and Visualization Specialist will be leading the way in the development and implementation of analytical solutions to T&D organizations using the SAS application suite of tools. This position will collaborate and work closely with our business partners to create dynamic reports to meet their business requirements using SAS analytical solutions. This position is pivotal to MPR’s commitment to becoming a World Class Analytics Organization as well as helping T&D organizations to apply data driven statistical models to achieve top quartile performance.

Typical Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for implementing analytic solutions for T&D organizations using the SAS application suite.

  • Assists in the development of strategic analytic initiatives to meet T&D goals and objectives.

  • Develops SAS models to monitor and forecast overall performance

  • Works with partners and stakeholders to resolve business requirements using SAS Visual analytical solutions.

  • Participates in cross functional teams as a technical expert team member during implementation of special projects.

  • Assists in determining scope of SAS Visual analytical solutions by providing expertise and feedback to management in support of departmental and/or company operations.

  • Develops, and assists or makes presentation to corporate officers, department and division management on initiatives supporting T&D strategies.

  • Evaluates and negotiates scope, resource allocation and timelines with department, division and region management in support of project teams conducting work aligned with departmental and/or company operations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Business, Economics, Finance or Statistics or related discipline.

  • Four or more years’ of experience performing analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations.

  • Two or more years’ experience with developing advanced analysis using SAS, R, or Python Applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in Statistics, Math, Engineering, Business, or Technical Discipline.

  • One or more years’ experience developing visualizations using SAS Enterprise Guide and Visual Analytics.

  • Lean Six Sigma.

  • Five or more years’ experience performing analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations.
