About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Organizational Unit is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

Demonstrated general knowledge in a variety of Civil Engineering principles, including grading design, drainage design, structural analysis, building codes, industry standards and regulations. Demonstrated experience working with teams. Demonstrated experience providing plan development, plan reviews, technical consultation and recommendations for evaluating effectiveness of technical design and cost. Demonstrated experience creating and modifying engineering drawings using computer aided drafting. Must have effective oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused, facilitate the presentation of recommendations, effectively present technical information and guide discussions toward the attainment of mutually acceptable goals and outcomes. Must gather and analyze information, make recommendations and guide others' decision making by identifying the anticipated benefits, consequences, & impacts of alternatives. Must demonstrate ability to take initiative, be accountable for individual results, and motivate self to set and achieve high performance standards. Must demonstrate the ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and others. Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects at the same time.

Responsibilities may include

The successful candidate will assist in the performance of general civil/structural site development and engineering analysis, design, detailing, and CAD supported drafting for Southern California Edison Facilities. This may include work in areas of civil/structural design and analysis, grading and drainage design, permitting support, construction support, plan check reviews, and contract management. Typical responsibilities include: interfacing with a wide range of individuals from client organizations, operations, maintenance, peer disciplines, and management in order to define work requirements and deliverables, carry out their activities, and provide periodic engineering reporting and status updates; gathering data, performing engineering analysis, & preparing reports, designs, drawings, and specifications; overseeing the preparations of documents; traveling throughout SCE’s service territory for work; and other duties and responsibilities as directed, provide support to field personnel and other internal and external customers as required; and provide other duties as assigned.


Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related technical field.

Four or more years of experience in civil and/or structural engineering

Must be proficient In AutoCAD and structural analysis programs

Possesses an Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate.

Desired qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess leadership experience as demonstrated through involvement in professional societies, volunteer service participation and governance.

Proficient in Civil 3D and hydrology/hydraulic analysis programs.

California P.E. License preferable.
