About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
The Manager will provide technical leadership on major transmission projects related but not limited to mitigating and improving transmission, subtransmission and distribution Poles and Towers structural analysis. Develop and update transmission and distribution design functional specification, participate in conjunction with cross functional organization to provide transmission and distribution structural support to SCE’s internal and external clients. Lead the effort in the development of new structure types, performs structural procurement support and consults on structural specification, analysis of rule changes relating to structures, and pole loading software development. Task associated with these functions include structural loading calculations, material deviation recommendations, and Operation& Maintenance support. Manage design, schedule and cost development of overhead lines structures ,manage team of engineering to develop and approve of new and modified equipment and hardware for the engineering department, provide upper management with resource planning recommendation and report staff’s performance appraisal. The Manager of Poles & Towers Structural Analysis team is responsible for managing a group of about 10 civil and structural engineers. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Transmission Engineering organization.
Responsibilities may include:
Creating a clear vision for the Poles & Towers Structural Analysis group and operationalize this vision into an actionable roadmap for the group to bring high values to the company.
Functioning as a strategic technical leader for T&D Engineering to advise, consult T&D Leadership on major projects t issues, leading highly technical team to solve field issues, presenting to leadership and gaining support.
Managing performance, coaching, providing feedback and improvement engineers to become more effective and efficient in delivering solutions and results.
Managing workload, resources, constraints, leveraging external consulting resources to optimize output to support T&D capital projects.
Bachelor's Degree in Structural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising function
Seven or more years of technical experience in transmission, and/or substation engineering, structure foundation.
Experience utilizing PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, SAP2000, SPiDA, SAG10, AUTO-CADD as designing tool
Experience withFinite Element Analysis tools for structure modeling.
Master's Degree in Engineering – Structural Emphasis
California PE License- Structural
Engineering experience with Electric Utility Distribution and Transmission Systems using California GO95 or NESC rules.
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and all levels of management enterprise-wide to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
Effectively interface with external engineering consultants and material suppliers.
Ability to accurately analyze information, make strategic decisions/recommendations, and guide others’ decision making by identifying the anticipated benefits, consequences, and impacts of alternatives.
Takes the initiative and accountability for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.
Drives strategic standards development that will form the basis for new equipment and materials.
Experience managing, coaching, and developing direct supervisory staff and their subordinates.
Integrates work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Position will require around 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
