About T&D:

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview:

The Sr. Engineer in reliability and performance management group will be responsible for engineering studies directly impacting reliability repair and maintenance outage performance improvement. The Sr. Engineer will be responsible for developing driver trees that will support decision making and prioritization of initiatives/projects linked to reliability goals. The Sr. Engineer will be responsible for analyzing reliability results and developing success measurements and improvement recommendations from an engineering context. The Sr. Engineer will perform engineering root cause analysis, analytical deep dives, and develop continuous improvement plans based on this work. In this role the Sr. Engineer will communicate via reports and presentations the results of analytical studies and resulting recommendations to all levels of leadership in T&D and SCE; including senior managers, executives and key stakeholders. The Sr. Engineer will lead and/or participate in SCE reliability benchmarking studies resulting in the implementation of best practices to T&D. The Sr. Engineer will work on leading SCE reliability performance to 1 st quartile in all metrics and measures. The Sr. Engineer’s responsibility to lead Big Data Reliability analytical studies and deep dives requires in-depth knowledge and expertise of both transmission and distribution systems and processes, as well as specialized engineering and data technical skills in the functional areas of advanced analytics and continuous process improvement.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct specialized engineering studies and advanced data analyses evaluating and studying the feasibility of reliability repair and outage initiatives and the business impact. One of the initiatives is Predictive Maintenance and its integration with the Business Planning and Field Engineering functions to improve decision making and prioritization of Infrastructure replacement programs.

  • Perform analytical deep dives on reliability and performance management initiatives and provide expert engineering and data based recommendations related to implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvements. Provide technical leadership to various project teams in the form of expert engineering analysis and provide technical recommendations to action plans and corrective actions in order enhance reliability.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to other engineers in reliability group, as well as outside groups working on reliability improvement initiatives and projects, like optimal design, work management, and infrastructure improvement.

  • Lead specific cross-functional projects and initiatives that require specialized engineering, data, predictive analytical and reliability analytical expertise and knowledge. Working independently from management, manage project scope, timelines, resources and deliverables. Represent MPR and/or T&D to SCE-wide stakeholders and executives related to project deliverables and recommendations.

  • Work with all levels of leadership in T&D and other OUs on establishing priorities and resolving conflicts in order to ensure project/initiative success and meeting goals. Represent SCE with IEEE in all reliability related benchmarking efforts.

  • The Sr. Engineer will provide expert level recommendations and decisions on distribution and transmission related reliability initiatives and projects. Sr. Engineer decisions and recommendations have a significant impact on both SCE and T&D strategies and goals.


Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or STEM discipline

  • Ten years of engineering experience in distribution and/or transmission

Desired qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline

  • Five years of experience in electrical reliability
