About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
The position will be part of the Field Engineering Division within Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Transmission & Distribution Organization Unit (TDOU). The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager in charge of the Field Engineering Office and will be responsible for preparing detailed distribution engineering analyses, studies, and programs to determine the needs and/or requirements for the existing system and future additions. In addition this person will determine requirements and the feasibility of potential projects from a construction perspective in order to create complex engineering scope packages, to determine requirements for complex projects based on applicable rules and standards, and to act as a liaison between the department and other planning and executing organizations as well as for external customers.
Typical Responsibilities :
Supporting a large area which encompasses Foothill, Palm Springs, and Redlands districts which we refer to as the Desert Region.
Focusing on utilizing experience, knowledge of design standards, distribution line construction practices and engineering principles to make recommendations to influence projects both within and outside of the department.
Providing recommendations for solutions and feedback on line constructability and ease of operation on complex engineering scope packages, providing cost estimates for potential projects, and communicating and negotiating on completion of projects related to the Distribution Substation Plan (DSP), Worst Circuit Rehabilitation (WCR), Overhead Conductor Program (OCP), Grid Modernization (GM), and Plant Betterment.
Supporting Added Facilities and other stakeholders to identify design options and make recommendations for customers for various projects (e.g., primary metering, back-up service, Rule 15 & 16, Rule 21 export/non-export, and Wholesale Distribution Access Tariff (WDAT’s) in conjunction with a Field Engineer.
Acting as a consultant to planning organizations and providing support on interpretation of regulations, standards (internal and external), and codes (e.g,. NEC).
Consulting with large-scale customers and state and local agencies to provide recommendations and guide the completion of projects (e.g., conduit work in bridges).
Interpreting and/or applying existing and new engineering standards and designs.
Working with regulations, standards (e.g., IEEE and NEMA), codes (e.g., NEC), and practices.
Investigating circuit interruptions, field equipment failures, accidents, and unusual service problems to support district and regional personnel.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment.
Four or more years of experience in the Electric Utility Industry performing complex analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations related to the design and planning of Electric Power Distribution Systems.
One or more years of experience working in a Utility Distribution Planner, Distribution Field Construction, and/or Distribution Engineer position.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
Experience with underground and overhead transmission construction standards, such as California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) GO 95 and 128, Electric Service Requirements (ESR), Distribution/Applicant Design Standards (DDS/ADS), OH & UG construction standards.
Four or more years of experience using Power System Engineering and/or Planning principles.
Experience with regulations, standards (e.g., IEEE and NEMA), codes (e.g., NEC), and practices to identify and resolve problems.
Experience as an SCE Planner 1 Trainee within the Service Planner Development Program (SPDP).
Consulting experience with clients to determine business needs and propose solutions.
Providing direction to cross-functional teams responsible for resolving complex issues or technical problems.
Ability to support multiple technical projects concurrently.
Experience preparing reports, making oral presentations, and translating technical concepts for both technical and non-technical personnel.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat.
Working knowledge of Google Earth.
Recognition internally and externally as a subject matter expert regarding distribution systems preferred.
Project management certificate preferred.
MS Visio preferred.

Relocation does not apply to this position.
Position will require up to 40% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE Dessert Region territory. Position will be located at the Rancho Cucamonga Regional Office.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
