About our Generation Organization Unit:
The Generation organization manages multiple generation facilities that make up a portfolio of generating technologies ranging from century old hydro generation to cutting-edge hybrid enhanced gas turbines. AMGS is responsible for a variety of Generation’s business functions including, but not limited to condition assessment, equipment reliability, asset optimization, plant engineering, performance reporting, and work management. This position will be reporting to the Asset Performance Engineering, Condition Monitoring & Analytics department in AMGS that comprises of condition assessment and reliability engineers/specialists. The successful candidate will lead the condition assessment program for mechanical equipment located at the various generating facilities that include: Mountainview, Peakers, Big Creek Hydro, Small Hydro, Battery Energy Storage and Catalina generation.
Edison is seeking a senior Condition Assessment Engineer to join the Asset Management & Generation Strategy (AMGS) division in the Generation organization.
The successful candidate will have proven experience with electric generating assets particularly Hydro generation and condition assessment work. Some general responsibilities will include performing process and equipment performance assessments, developing recommendations for operating and maintenance practices, developing predictive maintenance recommendations, developing and implementing condition monitoring programs, performing alternatives analysis for developing problem mitigation strategy, performing cost benefit analyses, and performing fault analysis studies. This condition assessment engineer will work closely with plant personnel, engineers and project teams to perform technical assessments and make recommendations. The condition assessment engineer will periodically partner with external consultants on not just projects but routine business activities.

Directs or performs Generation Mechanical Systems engineering for unique assignments where no design guides are available and where engineering precedents are incomplete, requiring a broad mechanical engineering background to complete a functional design.
Performs health and performance assessment for generation equipment (turbines, motors, compressors, valves, lube oil systems, cooling systems, etc.) and processes.
Performs equipment failure analysis and makes technical recommendations to mitigate the situation.
Perform risk evaluation of equipment that are in poor condition by determining the consequences of failure
Develops and manages condition monitoring programs. Provides recommendations for predictive maintenance actions.
Provides support to Generation’s Corrective Actions Program and periodically participate in investigations.
Analyzes and provides recommendations to optimize the various operating and maintenance practices.
Partners with external consultants to perform alternatives analysis for developing mitigation strategy for routine plant issues and situations.
Support Generation engineering projects.
May serve as a senior staff expert in generation systems and act as an expert witness or provide expert opinions to Edison.
May participate in department planning, provide budget recommendations, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Twelve years of engineering or related technical experience
Five years of condition assessment engineering principles, tasks, and analyses
Experience in the area of process/equipment health assessments.
Experience with condition based maintenance programs.
Experience working with Generation facility equipment or its equivalent.
Twelve years of condition assessment engineering principles, tasks, and analyses
Experience performing generation process/equipment health assessments.
Experience running condition assessment programs in a generation facility.
Experience with plant control systems.
Experience with hydro generation processes and procedures.
Experience working with a portfolio of generation technologies.
Experience managing and implementing complex engineering projects, including identifying, maintaining and/or adjusting the cost, scope, and resources, overseeing vendors and internal project staff, and overseeing the formal planning, tracking, and reporting of project performance.
Experience managing resources and budget levels to meet project objectives.
Experience interacting with clients, peers, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies and all levels of management, to develop solutions.
State of California Professional Engineer License.
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, Bishop Creek, Big Creek or Redlands, CA; however, the successful candidate will periodically travel to various generation locations within the SCE territory.
