Position Overview:

SCE’s Operational Finance organization plays an important role in in helping the company efficiently deploy capital, ensuring approved capital projects and programs meet corporate objectives and balance the interests of customers and shareholders. The Financial Analysis Advisor will join the Operational Finance group within the Finance organization at SCE. The successful candidate will work closely with operating units to develop business cases and program reviews as part of SCE’s capital review process.

The Financial Analysis Advisor is an individual contributor role responsible for leading the financial analysis of large capital projects or capital programs. Additionally, the advisor is responsible for leading project teams through the Finance and Risk Management (FRM) Committee approval process, providing direction on business case analysis and justifying the purpose of the capital spend.

In this role, the advisor will have to interact independently with leaders across the company to drive decisions and analysis to support business cases. The advisor will routinely present recommendations to the division VP and CFO as required. The advisor is expected to apply strong technical knowledge and leadership to challenge business assumptions and to drive to the best solution.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Business Case Analysis: Lead the financial evaluation and development of business cases for capital projects or capital program reviews that have a major financial or operational impact to the operating unit or company. This responsibility includes working with counterparts in operating units during capital reviews and presenting to management.

  • Decision Support: Identify and manage resolution of unusually complex issues, developing least cost or cost benefit analysis as appropriate. Will interact independently with leaders across the company to drive decisions and analysis to support business cases. The advisor will routinely present recommendations to the division VP and CFO as required. Issues typically require innovative solutions, multiple scenario analyses.

  • Ad-hoc Financial Analysis: Provide and/or oversee financial analysis support for corporate financial strategy and other corporate initiatives. Provide leadership on cross-functional teams on planning activities that have significant financial impact or risk to SCE. The advisor may also be asked to lead other financial initiatives seeking affordability savings across the company.

  • Finance Point of Contact: Represents Finance with other departments, and/or other parties as required. Acts as a key consultant to senior management on financial issues. Provides feedback on new or updated business processes and protocols. Communicates and educates about the use of financial tracking tools required to monitor, measure, and take corrective action for deviations from established schedules and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Seven years of experience in the field of financial or strategic planning and analysis or similar.

  • Two years of experience managing projects including project development, implementation, reporting, schedules, and risk management.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Able to present complex issues in a simple, logical, and succinct manner

  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills including ability to communicate analyses and recommendations to senior management.

  • Demonstrated experience in complex problem solving and critical thinking

  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, adjust to changing priorities, organize a heavy workload, work well in a team environment, and perform with minimal supervision

  • Expertise in corporate finance, financial analysis, and critical thinking to identify and clearly communicate the resolution of unusually complex issues with innovative solutions

  • Ability to successfully navigate ambiguous or uncertain situations; self-starter and independent problem solver

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects and working with cross-functional teams.

  • Understanding of utility business model and how various financial decisions affect customers and shareholders

  • Demonstrated experience with utility financial planning and accounting methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with peers, management, and other organizations.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating financial information to various audiences including senior management.

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • CFA, CFP&A, or similar certificate

  • Project Management Certificate

  • The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA
