Position Overview

Takes accountability for managing the development, implementation, and coordination of all technology initiative planning activities by engaging and consulting with clients and analyzing business needs identified through the development of the business initiative roadmap. Develops and enhances relationships with key stakeholders, actively manage their expectations, provides strategic consultation and monitor satisfaction levels. Leads activities for development, implementation, and coordination of all technology planning activities by guiding the following activities; business capability planning, identification of business outcomes and objectives, requirements solicitation, business case development, process analysis and solution planning. Proactively advises OUs on IT services and technologies by delivering clear, relevant, and timely planning communications to clients. Acts as the primary connection between IT planning and the business. Helps to identify demand conflicts and recommends escalation of conflicts, where appropriate for resolution. Provides management and strategic direction to a cross functional teams. Responsible for the development of scope, budget, and schedule in order to maintain the strategic view of the business, technology outcomes and how the technology initiative delivers on those outcomes. Establishes goals, negotiates, and develops project plans. Primary capability leader for the IT portfolio areas they are supporting. Executes demand management and business impact management activities for understanding, anticipating, and influencing client demand for services and working of solutions to escalated demand management client concerns. Works with capacity management to ensure that IT has sufficient capacity to meet the required demand. Prioritizes across the enterprise to ensure the highest – valued investments are sourced and completed.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Leads activities to align business strategies with IT strategies and helps develop the IT strategic initiatives roadmap. Supports the development of activities of the operating unit/portfolio business capabilities and translates new business needs into business cases. Defines multiple options to introduce or mature business capabilities and understands the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives.

  • Leads alignment to strategic objectives through tracking and developing of reports covering financials, time spent on work activities, budget, and overall performance. Implements best practices in product management, project management, optimization, and reporting.

  • Pro-actively manages and executes the demand management activities for understanding, anticipating, and influencing client demand for services and support of solutions to escalated demand management client concerns. Works with capacity management to ensure that IT has sufficient capacity to meet the required demand and if capacity is not available works with the initiative sponsor to align expectations. Prioritizes across the enterprise to ensure highest valued investments are sourced and completed.

  • Facilitates business case development activities to translate business needs from operating plans into a technology initiatives. Partners with cross functional IT and OU team to evaluate and mature initiative plans. Leads demand planning and approval activities through IT and Corporate Governance processes.

  • Provides leadership to work effectively with cross functional IT and OU teams to make decisions and influence portfolio direction. Consults with and drives organizational unit participation to accomplish initiative planning activities on schedule and within budget and to achieve objectives. Assists with documentation of the justification of proposed IT projects in terms of their overall benefits to the business, costs, strategic alignment and risk. Provides thought leadership in recommending strategic options and strategy formation.

  • Provides technical expertise in planning, execution, and leadership of program, projects, and initiatives. Controls program scope and baseline changes during the design, development, and production of assigned initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience leading projects or key business initiatives.

  • 5 years of experience developing technology strategies and roadmaps.

  • Experience performing IT portfolio and customer relationship management.

  • Experience working with end-users to develop business, functional, and technical requirements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computing Information Systems, Computer Science, or relevant technical discipline.

  • Graduate Degree in Business, Leadership, or relevant technical discipline.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate or equivalent.

  • 7 years of experience working in Information Technology for an electric utility.

  • 7 years of experience leading projects or key business initiatives.

  • 5 years of IT portfolio and customer relationship management experience for an electric utility.

  • Knowledge of evolving IT technologies.

  • Knowledge of Business Architecture Methodologies.
