The Telecom Engineer (ENG1) performs well-defined Telecommunications Engineering tasks on routine projects or assists in the performance of complex engineering assignments. This position is responsible for providing technical consultation, plan development and recommendations for customer and Company systems processes. The successful candidate will evaluate the effectiveness of current technical systems and processes, provide information and recommendations on routine assignments, and provide technical assistance in support of senior engineers.
Analyzing telecommunications requirements. Producing high level project cost and manpower estimates. Supporting the design of telecommunications systems such as Microwave and Fiber Optic Transport. Placing orders for the procurement of equipment. Developing detailed installation job instructions and documentation. Developing and managing schedules to meet project operating dates, initiating capital work orders, etc. Projects includes: Copper Cable Replacement, Microwave Refresh, Lightwave Refresh, Bandwidth Upgrade, and DC power systems refresh.
One year of engineering experience.
Experience with telecommunication systems (i.e. DC Power systems, lightwave and microwave transport systems, fiber optic, voice systems, satellite and radio systems, and data systems).
Experience with telecommunications systems design and circuits, and analyzing job requirements.
Experience working with engineering programs/software (such as CAD, AutoCad, Oracle, TBS, GIS, SAP).
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must be able to travel throughout Southern California Edison’s 50,000 square mile service territory, including to remote rugged locations.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean abstract.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or relevant technical discipline.
Knowledge and experience with telecommunication and network infrastructure.
Ability to gather, analyze and document information from various sources and make recommendations.
Ability to deliver technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, including identifying project needs, prioritizing multiple projects and following through all assignments.
Demonstrated the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Demonstrated effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
Demonstrated strong ethics, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA; however, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at (alternate work location).
Position will require up to 25% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
